1st post!

Well after reading the article in the Honolulu Weekly, I have decided to try my hand at aquaponics.

Aquaponics (IPA: /ˈækwəˈpɒnɪks/) is the symbiotic cultivation of plants and aquatic animals in a recirculating environment.

Basically a tank full of fish such as feeder comets, koi, goldfish, or tilapia are bred. A pump sends the dirty fish water up to 1 or more hydroponic grow beds. the plants are fertilized by the fish crap, cleaning and oxygenating the water, which is then either pumped or gravity fed back into the fish tank.

After doing extensive (googling and reading), I have sketched out my first aquaponics design, but have also found some classes offered on Oahu at Olomana Farms. Classes are held every week, but I am attending the UH classes on May 9th.
I may purchase their starter setup and redesign my initial design from there.
